About the Department

Electronics & Communication Engineering

     The Department offers a four-year undergraduate programme (B. Tech), five-year dual degree programme (integrated B.Tech and M.Tech) and a two-year postgraduate programme (M. Tech) in Electronics and Communication Engineering. The courses offered at both level of studies cover areas related to Signal Processing, VLSI Circuit & Embedded Systems, Microwave Engineering and Communication Systems. Modern laboratories supplement these areas of study. Also, some students visit universities abroad in the final semester of their degree. The Department also runs an active Doctoral programme.
     The Department provides research facilities including a library with the latest journals to its faculty members & interested students and encourages them to do research in the upcoming areas. The faculty members also have research collaboration with universities abroad and do joint research projects. Since the inception of the department, faculty members have guided a good number of Doctoral theses and M. Tech Dissertations.

    M1. To impart high quality electronics and communication engineering education and            professional ethics to students.
    M2. To adopt the best pedagogical methods in order to maximize knowledge transfer.
    M3. To have adequate mechanisms to enhance understanding of  implementation of            theoretical concepts in practical scenarios.
    M4. To carry out high quality research leading to the creation of knowledge and  of            intellectual property.
    M5. To provide the best facility, infrastructure, and environment to its  students, researchers            and faculty members, creating an ambience  conducive for excellence in technical            education and research.

Programme Educational Objectives (B.Tech): 
    PEO-1 To acquire a strong background in basic science and mathematics and ability to use                 these tools in electronics and communication engineering.
    PEO-2 To develop the ability to demonstrate technical competence in the fields of                 electronics and communication engineering and develop solutions to the problems in                 various areas of  electronics and communication engineering.
    PEO-3 To attain professional excellence through life-long learning.
    PEO-4 To attain the qualities of professional leadership to deliver effectively in a                 multi-disciplinary team and domains.
    PEO-5 To produce graduates who ensure ethical and moral behaviour.

Programme Outcomes (B.Tech):
Engineering Graduates will be able to:
PO1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
PO3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
PO5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
PO6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
PO7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
PO8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
PO9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
PO10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
PO11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
PO12. Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs)
A  ECE graduate will achieve the following PSOs. 
PSO1. Able to solve problems of ECE through analytical thinking.
PSO2. Students should be aware of contemporary issues and their implications.
PSO3. Demonstrate proficiency in use of software and hardware required to practice Electronics and communication profession
PSO4. Should posses the communication skills effectively both orally and in writing, should be able to demonstrate the practice of professional ethics and adherence to quality.
