The vision of the Department of Pharmacy is to be recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in pharmacy education, research and service that partners effectively with others to promote the discovery, development and appropriate use of medications for the welfare and safety of the public.

 Mission of Pharmacy Department

The mission of the department is to educate student pharmacists to work in partnership with other health professionals to provide accessible, compassionate, and integrative pharmaceutical care with the goal of enhancing patient outcomes. In addition, we provide high quality post-graduate education and advanced training in the medicinal chemistry and pharmacology. We provide scientific leadership through development of innovative research programs in the pharmaceutical sciences, conduct basic, translational and outcomes research, and make informed decisions at preclinical and clinical stages of drug discovery, development and implementation.

The Educational Objectives of the Program

  Introduction of the pharmacy student to the delivery of patient care services directly through the evaluation of  medication orders and prescriptions, mode of action, side effects, prospective pharmacy review, dispensing of medications.

 Development of pharmaceutical care utilizing introductory and advanced pharmacotherapeutic knowledge, and ethical assessment incorporated with basic problem-solving skills.

 Introduction and development of critical thought processes in the student (i.e. assessment, analysis, evaluation and synthesis of medication-related issues) relative to drug informatics, and delivery of drugs.

 Development of verbal and written communications skills in the pre-clinical setting through application, research, and analysis of medications, pharmacotherapeutic and pharmacologic principles and clinical dilemmas.

 Progressive development of research skills in the area of medicinal chemistry and pharmacology.

  Introduction to a variety of pharmacy services, administrative functions, drug regulatory affairs and intellectual property rights.

Courses Design

The Department imparts education to equip students with modern skills compatible to the needs of industry and academia. The program objective is to provide a well-rounded undergraduate, postgraduate and doctral education in pharmaceutical sciences and to integrate knowledge with hands-on experience to enhance career path development.

The Department is equipped with 12 labs providing hands on training in various areas of pharmacy such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical biotechnology, animal & plant cell culture technologies, high throughput biology, and computer aideddrug design. In addition to pharmacy subjects, our curriculum also includes courses on biotech., bioinformatics, and professional development.


The Department is actively involved in research by having the distinction of running externally funded R & D projects worth Rs. 60 lakh from various Govt. of India agencies such as the Department of Biotechnology, Department of Science & Technology, DRDO, ICMR, and industry sponsored project. The department has a strong doctoral research program wherein 10 Ph.D. scholars are registered with faculty members.
